greener arena is an event greening advisory service which began in Auckland in 2018, following the implementation of a zero waste strategy at New Zealand's largest indoor venue, Spark Arena.

We now operate out of UK as well as providing advocacy and support for venues and events in Australia and
New Zealand.

We are happy to share our knowledge
and experience to help you towards creating zero waste events and understanding best practice in
your particular scenario.

Spark Arena rolled out the first stage of its zero waste strategy across a record-breaking run of concerts by the artist P!nk. All food and beverage packaging was sourced from Innocent Packaging and Ecoware, and the waste from the concerts was transferred to Envirofert in Tuakau, where it was converted to quality compost.

All recyclables are kept out of public hands, and the sorting of glass, plastics, soft plastics, cardboard, tin and aluminium is in the hands of staff. The resultant waste streams are clean, and managed seperately by specialist recyling facilities.

The venue has enjoyed a dramatic downturn in waste sent to landfill and is continuing to work towards a zero waste output.

Since these events in September 2018, the venue has successfully continued its policy of using only 100% compostable packaging for all events.

Subsequent changes include the use of Ecover soap and compostable hand towels in all bathrooms, front of house and backstage.

Backstage gardens are fed with compost from the venue's waste streams, and the gardens are host to the arena's beehives. The venue enjoys an annual honey harvest every January.
